bcctc_logo_low_resThere are rules around procurement in British Columbia and ICBA’s course Tender Law: Procurement in the Construction Industry aims to  provide a refresher and update on the current state of the procurement and tendering laws in BC. Keeping current on what rights and obligations is critical to those who wish to successfully participate in B.C.’s vibrant construction industry.

The tender process will be examined with an emphasis on how to make the best choices and minimize legal risks in the tender process and avoid costly situations for all parties.

The application of the tender process to design-bid-build, design/build and P3 projects will be reviewed and the pitfalls inherent in the procurement process in each instance will be identified and examples of risk management techniques discussed. The seminar will be followed by questions and discussion.

The course is presented by John R. Singleton, Q.C., and Steve Berezowskyj, LLB.

Mr. Singleton has practiced construction law throughout his career and has been a frequent speaker both nationally and internationally on construction-related topics. He has also authored numerous articles on this topic and is an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Law at UBC and a guest lecturer at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California in construction law. He has appeared at all levels of the courts in Canada on many leading cases affecting the construction industry and is a Chartered Arbitrator and Mediator of construction disputes.

Mr. Berezowskyj has spent much of his 15 year career providing advice to various interests in the construction industry. He has provided counsel to owners, contractors and design professionals on procurement matters, risk management and claims. He also acts as an independent Fairness Monitor overseeing the procurement of a number of public infrastructure projects throughout British Columbia.
