Russell Wilson, Super Bowl champion and Seattle Seahawks star quarterback, will be the guest speaker at the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association (ICBA) Gala Dinner in Vancouver next spring, ICBA president Chris Gardner announced today.

“With COVID-19 preventing ICBA from holding our galas in 2020 and 2021, we wanted to come back with the biggest star possible,” said Gardner. “In B.C., there’s no bigger NFL fanbase than the Seattle Seahawk 12s, and no bigger star than quarterback Russell Wilson. We’re thrilled to have him speak at our ICBA Gala next April.”

The ICBA Gala will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the JW Marriott Parq Hotel in Vancouver. Everyone attending will be vaccinated and screened according to the directives of the BC Provincial Health Officer.

Over the past decade, Wilson has led the Seahawks to the franchise’s greatest heights, including winning Super Bowl XLVIII. A future Pro Football Hall of Famer, Wilson is considered one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks and great ambassadors for football. Wilson and his wife, pop star Ciara, have donated millions of dollars to charities around the world.

“Russell Wilson’s story is incredible – scouts and experts claimed he was too small to ever become an elite NFL quarterback, and he was supposed to be the Seahawks’ backup. All he did was work harder and shatter every expectation in his rookie season,” said Gardner. “One season later, he threw two touchdown passes in the Super Bowl, leading the Seahawks to their first-ever championship. He never gives up and is the consummate team player and leader.”

Since 2017, the ICBA Gala has become the can’t-miss networking event and celebration of what the men and women working in construction do every day to build B.C.

Wilson will be the fourth Super Bowl champion quarterback to speak at the event, following Hall of Famers Peyton Manning (2017), Brett Favre (2018) and Troy Aikman (2019).

Tickets went on sale Thursday to ICBA members, and hundreds have already sold. A small number of tickets are available to the public starting today, Monday, Nov. 8. Visit icba.ca/Wilson to get tickets.

The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association (ICBA) represents more than 3,300 construction and responsible resource development members and clients, trains more than 5,000 workers every year, and is the single largest sponsor of trades apprentices in B.C. ICBA Benefits is one of the leading independent providers of group health and retirement benefits in western Canada, supporting more than 110,000 Canadians.
