WorkSafeBC is developing new washroom regulations for B.C. construction sites, but they don't seem up to speed on the lessons learned by other jurisdictions, say our friends at COCA. Far be it from us to suggest a government agency take a field trip, but WorkSafeBC officials should engage Ontario and Quebec to understand their regulatory approaches better and avoid potential pitfalls. As COCA notes: "Over the years, we have seen the unfortunate results of government policies that have been rushed — where the implementation has the opposite effect of what was intended."

We are saddened to hear that our old friend, and great Canadian, Rex Murphy passed away. Rex was a true character -- and a man OF character -- who loved this country dearly. His wit, wisdom and writings led ICBA to work with him several times -- bringing him across B.C. to speak to our contractors and business owners. He was always outstanding, blending his brilliance and humour in the way only he could. And no one stood up for everyday Canadians and the natural resource sector like Rex did.Thank you for everything, Rex. Be sure to tell St. Peter all about Peckford's stupid hydroponic cucumber plan (IYKYK).

✅ The completion of the $34 billion Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project marks a milestone for both the country and the Western Canadian oil industry – Canada’s number one generator of export earnings. 👷Since 2017, almost 30,000 people have worked on the project, which will triple the volume of oil that can be moved on the expanded pipeline and give Canada a much-needed outlet to sell into offshore markets.💰 The hefty capital spending on TMX was divided between Alberta and B.C. Now that it’s finished, it is timely to ask about the outlook for other major project investment -- and there's $150 billion in the works for Alberta alone.📝 ICBA Chief Economist Jock Finlayson digs into the numbers at icbaalberta.ca/blog/

Many factors and circumstances – trauma, addiction, depression, isolation, financial woes, serious physical illness, and major life changes can contribute to someone ending their life, not just mental illness. In this 90-minute workshop, tailored to the construction industry, participants will learn about the prevalence and risk of suicide amongst our peers. We will learn what you can do if you are concerned about yourself, or someone you know. We will discuss how to cope if someone you know dies of suicide and will direct you to valuable resources.www.youtube.com/watch?v=rupeJ4XbNnQ
